thank you so much with this site. this have given me renewed hope to get a transplant as soon as possible. i have been on peritonial dialysis since end of January 1999.i have sisters who have signified there there intentions to donate there kidney to me for transplant.i believe i am a very good candidate for the operation as I am in the peak of my health. the only deterrent i am encountering right now is monetary constraint or the lack of it thereof. is there any foundation or organization who willing to shoulder the cost or maybe a fraction of it? Cold you refer to such orgianization or how am i going to get in touch with this people or organization.
i am Ildebrando B. Gerra, 34 years old and as you see i belong to a big family and i must admit the cost is draining our meager financial resources. both my parent are unemployed wherein my father is a retired gov't employee. i have 8 other siblings. all of us are well-schooled i have a degree in Mechanical engineering from the University of San Carlos and my career was abruptly interupted by my disorder which came as a surprise as i never experience any discomfort or abnormality in my health. presently i am in the competent care of Dr. Juliet Chua Chong-Noel, which I understand was trained in this field in the NKTI. previously I was with a St Luke trained Nephrologist- Dra. Karen Chan-Licuanan. if the need for me to go to Manila is imperative for pre-operative examination i shall make myself available for such.
for an abstract on myself, i often wonder why i fell prey on this disease as we don't have anyfamily history orenal disease,high blood pressure. i don't do drugs either not having even tried marijuana or drink hard liquor. i was an athlete and participated actively in sports competition.

Hello, I must commend your website, it is very informativie and well constructed. I encountered your website as I was\ surfing the net about kidney transplant. Being a Filipino living in the states.. I thought "let me try it and low and bejold I found this wonderful website. I'm writing this on behalf of my sister who desparately in need of a kidney. Family members are unable to donate since other illness are involved with the family members. The best hope to find an outside donor(not relative). Here in the United States. the waiting lists will take up to 3-4 years and by then God only knows if shes could remain healthy.Right now she's doing her dialysis at home 3xtimes aday Quite emotionally and physically draining.As her sister I am\ trying to help her go through this ordeal. My question is .. how can one be registered in your organization ,considering we are in Los Angeles, CA Do your compnay also interviews prospective , non relative donors willing to give the gift of life? I am a Financial Coordinator for the Liver and Kidney Transplant program at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital (formerly Columbia Presbyterian Hospital and New York Hospital-Cornell). I am interested in finding out how you are financing the cost of living donor evaluations and donor nephrectomies. Is the recipient's family responsible for paying for the donor's costs or do you have a special fund for living donor costs? In the U.S., the living donor costs are subsidized by the federal government through the Medicare program. Most health insurance companies do cover kidney donor costs. I would appreciate it if you could give me some information. Also, if you are interested in how living donor kidney transplants are financed here in the U.S., please feel free to email me. Thanks. To whomever founded this H.O.P.E project, I salute you! Congratulations on this wonderful project you started. People needs to understand that Organ donations, of either cadaveric or live donor can be a wonderful thing to give somebody a chance of a new life to live.Most especially in the Philippines that the dialysis treatment alone is unaffordable to so many people.I myself is a dialysis patient at the Toronto Western Hospital, Canada. I arrived here twelve years ago and diagnosed with a Kidney failure in 1994.I have been on C.A.P.D.(continous ambulatory peritonnial dilaysis) since '94. So many challenges happening since then but gladly to say that I'm very lucky to be here, because if I was in the Phils. then maybe I wouldn't have survive this long. My heartfelt sympathy to my co-Filipinos who are suffering from this ailment. I know what you're going through everyday. My love and prayers are with you all always. February 14, 2002

I am very happy to see a web site that deals with transplantation. I am aware that there are alot of Filipinos who are suffering from ESRD and other disease that needs organ transplantation. Thru this web site, we could educate other people about transplantations. I hope you will continue to educate and share the informations to general public that we need alot of Donors. It is surprising to find another HOPE organization that deals with organ donation in my native country, no less. I am a procurement transplant coordinator for the HOPE Program (Human Organ Procurement and Exchange) at the University of Alberta Hospital in Alberta, Canada. I have been practicing in this capacity for 6 years now. My family moved here in 1981 from Mindoro. I have a question about your criteria for declaring brain death. Your website says that the brainsem can be intact with brain death and a patient can be considered dead even if he/she is breathing. We define brain death in Canada as cessation of all cerebral and brainstem function - the patient is supported on a ventilator and is apneic without the ventilator. We do two declarations at least 2 hours apart, longer with children and use cerebral perfusion scan if clinical brain death testing is not possible. The Canadian Neurological Association does not recomment CT, MRI or EEG as they are not reliable. I would be interested in your clinical testing for brain death and your response to some of my comments.

I am thanful for the many sites pertaining to organ & tissue donation. I wish there was a DATABASE that ANYONE could enter their desire to be a donor, and ANY hospital could access that database!! Does this exist? My Birthday is MY FAVORITE DAY OF THE YEAR!!! This 31st B-day I am going to request that in lieu of gifts, my family and friends make donations to an organ/tissue non-profit org. You’re website is very informative and helpful to us kidney patients and I’m thankful for that. I’ve been on dialysis for 15 months and hoping for a kidney transplant. I’m having trouble in finding a donor. We are only 3 in the family, and my mom is hypertensive while my brother is a minor. I’ve lost my dad and youngest brother thru drowning accident. Most of my friends and relatives don't know much and understand my ailment. Thus they are afraid to lend help. I’ve been home, jobless but my case is not hopeless. Nonetheless, I’m writing with hope that someone out there would find in his heart to donate his /her healthy kidney. I hope and pray someone would give me a chance to live a life that’s been temporarily interrupted for a while. I'm 25, blood type O+ and a promising life ahead of me.
